Conventional Gas-Powered

Hydroject Plumbing LabelThe residential, gas-powered, conventionally vented water heater stands as the time-tested workhorse of our industry. Unlimited flows rates and large standby supplies of hot water have helped make this design the most popular style across a diverse geographic area. Whether powered by natural or propane (LP) gas, this venerable and familiar style has undergone considerable change in recent history. The most important change was the incorporation of Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistant (FVIR) technology. This new technology makes residential water heaters safer.*

In the U.S. where large, multiple and simultaneous hot water demands necessitate high flow rates, the large, stand-by hot water reserve a tank-type water heater provides remains a prized attribute. The operating and energy efficiency of these water heaters continues to improve across the industry and now is approaching or surpassing the efficiencies of any other residential water heater design.

Direct Vent Energy Saver Water Heaters

Direct vent (DS) water heaters utilize a co-axial (pipe inside a pipe) vent pipe that takes air in from the outside (outer vent) and vents combustion gases directly back to the outside (outer vent). It is the perfect choice for situations with insufficient combustion air. No electricity required.

Conventional Electric Water Heaters
Probably the least expensive tank-type water heaters to purchase and install, electric-powered models are a favorite with builders and installers in areas where alternative fuel sources are unavailable. Recent regulatory changes have made this type of electric water heater much more efficient thereby making the product class a better value.Nothing could be simpler than replacing one electric water heater with a new one. There are no gas or oil lines to contend with and no venting to consider. It requires only removing the old heater, placing the new unit, installing the inlet and outlet water lines and connecting the electric power. Yearly operating costs are proportionally higher than gas or oil models but this is somewhat offset by the initial savings in both purchase price and installation costs.Based on a design similar to that of an electric oven, these models heat water by using electric elements submerged inside the tank. The elements are placed one low and one high in the tank to distribute heat more evenly throughout the stored water.
